The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) recognizes older adult fall prevention as a significant public health issue and the urgency to address health concerns of a rapidly aging society. With support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NACCHO worked on a project entitled “Developing the Capacity to Support Older Adult Falls.”

The project aimed to help local health departments (LHDs) enhance their capacity to identify older adults at high risk for falls, create awareness among older adults about fall risk and prevention, and partner with community resources to support LHD’s fall prevention efforts.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is pleased to announce the publication of two new clinical older adult fall prevention products developed with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first is a new issue brief entitled Connecting Care: A Framework for Local Health Departments to Address Fall Prevention Effort. This issue brief highlights case studies of clinical older adult falls prevention programs including their program description, model, and evaluation. The second is a new guide entitled Older Adult Fall Prevention Program Evaluation Guidance, which was developed for local health departments seeking to evaluate clinical older adult falls prevention programs.

Developing the Capacity to Support Clinical Older Adult Fall Prevention: A Guide for Local Health Departments and a corresponding workbook was developed with funding from the CDC for local health departments seeking to create community-care linkages for older adults who are at risk for falls. If you have any questions about the guide, please contact the NACCHO Overdose, Injury & Violence Prevention Team at [email protected].
